ACQUISITION

The HubSpot Blog’s State of AI Report

Love it, hate it, or deathly afraid of it, AI continues to dominate the news and is changing how we work on an almost daily basis.

Hubspot just released their state of AI report with findings from 1350 business professionals. Some key takeaways:

  • Marketers using generative AI save an average of at least three hours on each piece of content they make.

  • 68% say AI can help their company scale in a way that would be impossible without it, with a similar impact the industrial revolution had.

  • 95% of professionals using AI say it helps them spend less time on manual tasks, spend more time on the most important parts of their role.

  • 84% of bloggers using AI and/or automation say it's effective at aligning web content with search intent.

  • Most people are still only using AI for ideas, outlines, and first drafts as the technology is not quite ready to pump out publish-worthy content.

Tons more good stuff in this one, definitely worth a deep dive when you’ve got 20 minutes.

A Step-By-Step Guide To Creating Segments And Audiences In GA4 With Examples

As we get closer and closer to the official GA4 event horizon it’s time to start digging in to what’s possible with the new Analytics.

One key change is in how GA4 measures screen views. Instead of splitting mobile and web browsers into different sessions, GA4 combines these views into a single session, tracking users across devices and providing a much more accurate depiction of the user journey.

This article on SEJ is a nice intro to using segments and audiences in GA4 and just begins to scratch the surface of what’s possible. Check it out.

CONVERSION

Introducing INP to Core Web Vitals

Website performance has been a hot topic over the past few years. Mostly because Google made website performance — what they call “Core Web Vitals” — part of their ranking algorithm. But also because faster websites lead to higher conversions.

The Google Chrome team just announced an upcoming update to these metrics, changing how they measure responsiveness from First Input Delay (FID) to Interaction to Next Paint (INP).

I won’t bore you with the technical details (just make sure your dev is aware of these changes) but the key thing to know for most Shopify sites is to avoid unnecessary javascript.

How do you do this?

  • Reduce the number of apps you use.

  • Make sure old app code from uninstalled apps has been removed.

  • Choose better performing apps.

  • Custom code specific functionality rather than installing a bloated app where you use only 10% of the features.

  • Upgrade to an Online Store 2.0 theme.

  • If you’re still lacking in speed there is some technical wizardry devs can do to improve the performance of your existing theme and apps that’s far outside the scope of what we can cover here.

The official date for these changes to roll out is March 2024, so there’s plenty of time to get your site humming along before any potential negative impacts will be seen.

EMAIL MARKETING

How to Track Add to Cart on Shopify Collection Pages in Klaviyo

Klaviyo’s default tracking will measure add to cart events from product pages, however if you’ve got quick add enabled on collection pages it won’t track those events. Bummer! Luckily this little article will show you how to track those events so you’re getting a more accurate picture of user behaviour. It’s a bit techy so you might want to shoot it to over you dev and tell them to do it for you.

SHOPIFY NEWS

The Shopify Entrepreneurship Index

Ever wondered what kind of impact entrepreneurship makes on the world? Or which countries and states are making the biggest impact?

Shopify has beta launched a new platform called the Shopify Entrepreneurship Index designed to share data and insights on global entrepreneurship across 40 countries and all U.S. states.

Some interesting data to dig into. And as we’ve come to expect with Shopify, excellent presentation on a dedicated little mini site.

Shopify Magic Updates

Merchants using Shopify Magic have been blessed with two handy updates this week. You can now optimise email send times and generate email subject lines with Shopify Magic.

Shopify Email Templates

If you’re using Shopify Email then you’ll be pleased to know you can now create and save your own email and automation templates. This will save a ton of time and is a big step in making the Shopify Email platform a viable choice for many store owners.

Different Logos Per POS Location

A small but important POS update also rolled out this week. You can now set different logos on your printed receipts for each POS location.
